New Fellows Workshop

Overview

Facilitators: ACEM

ACEM is pleased to announce the return of the New Fellows Workshop, taking place on Sunday 23 November as part of the 2025 ACEM ASM in sunny Gold Coast, Queensland.

Tailored for early-career FACEMs, this engaging and supportive program will explore key challenges and opportunities in the transition to consultant life. Topics include:

  • A firsthand account of starting as a FACEM in London’s busiest trauma centre—during a terror crisis and while filming 24 Hours in A&E
  • Imposter syndrome and the challenges of transition – an interactive session
  • Life and work in regional, rural and remote EM across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Managing difficult conversations – practice with real scenarios
  • Equity and Inclusion in EM – intercultural care, compassion science, and social emergency medicine
  • Wellness, professional development, and leave – practical tips from colleagues working in unique locations like Alice Springs

You will also participate in a shared session with Later Career Fellows, including a presentation from Dr David Green, who will reflect on his four decades of service and leadership at Gold Coast University Hospital. An interactive activity will follow, encouraging meaningful dialogue and connection between New Fellows and Later Career Fellows.

Please note: This workshop is only open to FACEMs elected to Fellowship with the last three years (from November 2022 – November 2025). This is a standalone workshop and registration to the ASM is not required.
